Engineering Doctoral Programs

The Engineering Education concentration requires a total of 90 hours:

  • 15 hours of 5000 level or above letter graded courses in engineering, science, or math (maximum of 9 hours in science and math)
  • 1-3 hours Engineering Education Enquiry Seminar ENGR 5120
  • 3 hours Qualitative Research Methods, choose from: EIPT 6043 or COMM 5313 or SOC 5313
  • 3-6 hours Quantitative Research Methods ISE 5553 and/or ISE 5853
  • 0-3 hours Instructional Theory ENGR 5113
  • 3 hours Diversity topics, choose from: EDAH 5473EDAH 5940 Gender, Society, and Education, EDS 5833PHIL 5833HSCI 5550, or EDS 5933
  • 2-45 hours Dissertation Research ENGR 6980
  • 12-63 hours additional coursework

Notes:

  • At least 9 hours of 5000-level or above letter graded engineering courses beyond the MS are required. ENGR 5120, ISE 5553, ISE 5853, and ENGR 5113 may count toward this requirement.
  • A maximum of 12 hours of 4000-level engineering and science courses approved for graduate credit may be applied (maximum of 9 hours of 4000-level courses from a single discipline).
  • A maximum of 6 hours of S/U-graded courses (excluding dissertation research) may be applied.

The Engineering Standard concentration requires a total of 90 hours:

  • 9 hours of 5000-level or above letter-graded Engineering courses beyond the MS
  • 15 hours of 5000-level or above letter-graded courses in engineering, science, or math (maximum of 9 hours in science and math)
  • 21-64 hours additional coursework
  • 2-45 hours Dissertation Research ENGR 6980

Notes:

  • A maximum of 12 hours of 4000-level engineering and science courses approved for graduate credit may be applied (maximum of 9 hours of 4000-level courses from a single discipline).
  • A maximum of 6 hours of S/U-graded courses (excluding dissertation research) may be applied
