Computer Science Doctoral Programs

The doctoral degree program aims to prepare and develop professionals capable of conducting and directing research within the discipline of computer science. This degree program requires a minimum of three years of full-time study beyond the bachelor's degree that can be completed with a minimum of 45 hours of coursework and a minimum of 30 hours of dissertation research. The combined hours of coursework and dissertation research should be at least 90. Doctoral students are required to pass a general examination before they successfully defend their dissertation.

curriculum

The program requires a total of 90 hours:

  • 6 hours Systems coursework as approved by the Graduate Liaison of the School of Computer Science
  • 6 hours Theory coursework as approved by the Graduate Liaison of the School of Computer Science
  • 6 hours Applications coursework as approved by the Graduate Liaison of the School of Computer Science
  • 3 hours Presentation coursework as approved by the Graduate Liaison of the School of Computer Science
  • 24-39 hours additional coursework as approved by the Graduate Liaison of the School of Computer Science (at most one independent studies course C S 5990 can be counted toward requirements)
  •  30-45 hours Dissertation Research C S 6980
